Carjack victim thrown on ground
A woman was pulled out of her car and thrown on to the ground during a carjacking in Southampton.

The 46-year-old was getting into her Audi TT, parked in Windermere Avenue, Millbrook, when she was approached by a man on Thursday.

He threw the woman on the ground and she had to quickly move her legs away from the car before the man sped off.

The vehicle was fitted with a tracking device and was later found abandoned in Chilworth Drove.

The victim was left "extremely shaken" by the ordeal but otherwise unhurt, police said.

The suspect was described as white, about 16-20 years old, about 6ft, of slim build and was wearing dark polo shirt with red horizontal stripes and a dark baseball cap.

Pc Simon Bembridge, of Hampshire Police, said: "This was a terrifying experience which left the victim understandably shaken and upset.

"While she was on the floor she had to quickly move her legs out of the way of the car because she thought she was going to be run over by this man as he drove off."

Baby died 'at hands of boyfriend'
An 11-month-old girl died as a result of an injury inflicted by her mother's boyfriend, a court heard.

The 17-year-old struck baby Ruby Spink, who died from a severe blunt force injury to the head in September 2007, prosecutors told Norwich Crown Court.
The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denies murder.
Laura Spink, 18, of Salisbury Road, Great Yarmouth, who denied causing or allowing her daughter's death, had earlier admitted cruelty, jurors heard.
Ruby died in hospital on 17 September. A post-mortem examination revealed she died form head injuries.
The only person in that room with Ruby at the time was the youth

Christopher Morgan, prosecutor
Christopher Morgan, prosecuting, told the court that Ms Spink, who was pregnant with her boyfriend's baby at the time Ruby died, had admitted wilfully neglecting Ruby, causing her unnecessary suffering.

Mr Morgan said Ms Spink had earlier denied causing or allowing the death of her baby by failing to take steps to protect her, and the offence would remain on file.
"The Crown say that injury must have been caused by a direct blow to the head or by the head coming into contact with something with an unyielding surface," Mr Morgan told jurors.
"The only person in that room with Ruby at the time was the youth."

An explanation was given by the defendant that Ruby had choked on chocolate cake, he said.
Ruby was found to have significant fractures of her ribs and legs which were in the process of healing and occurred 21 days before her death, Mr Morgan told the court.

He added that there was so much concern about Ruby's welfare that on 10 September there was a child protection conference, to which the youth was invited, but did not attend.
As a consequence, a written agreement was signed by Ms Spink saying she would be the sole carer of Ruby.
"This condition was ignored on the 16 September," Mr Morgan added.
The trial continues.

Rapist jailed over murder bid
The attack took place in Dundee in March
A convicted rapist who condemned a woman to "a living death" with a "brutal and unwarranted" attack has been jailed for 12 years. George Cameron repeatedly punched and kicked his victim and locked his arm around her neck before throwing her down some stairs.
The groaning woman was found badly injured by late night revellers and was not expected to survive.
The 23-year-old mother-of-one suffered brain damage and now cannot speak or feed herself and is in "a highly vegetative state", the High Court in Edinburgh heard.

Cameron was sentenced at the High Court
Lord Dawson told Cameron: "This was a brutal, unwarranted attack on a young woman.
"Having attacked her, you left her for dead and that is, to all intents and purposes, what she is."
Cameron, who was described as a vagrant who has never held down a job, admitted attempting to murder his victim on 7 March this year at Foundry Lane, in Dundee, by assaulting her to her severe injury, permanent impairment and disfigurement.
He was also originally charged with raping his victim, but the Crown accepted that allegation should be deleted.

Anger problems
Cameron, 23, was released months earlier from a six-year sentence for rape imposed by an English court in 1998. The registered sex offender has also served a five-year term for causing death by dangerous driving. He was described as having an anti-social personality disorder and anger problems.
He was first expelled from school at the age of 11 for assault.
Elish Angiolini said the victim's prospects were poor

Solicitor General Elish Angiolini QC said Cameron's latest crime bore "a fairly sinister similarity" to his earlier rape attack.
The court heard that Cameron had been on a drink and drugs binge in the days proceeding the assault in Dundee. The victim, who was described as a "fairly vulnerable" person, had gone out on the evening of the attack to seek business as a prostitute.
Cameron visited a pub and a nightclub and was captured on city centre CCTV walking towards the area of Foundry Lane.
He was seen to meet up with the woman and head into the lane. Patrons from a nightclub later found her lying at the bottom of stairs after being alerted by her groaning.
'Dangerous man'
The solicitor general said: "At that point she was not expected to survive. Police believed they were dealing with a homicide."
The victim was bleeding heavily and had a fractured skull, nose and cheekbone and suffered a brain injury.
She was also showing signs of asphyxiation and had sustained hypothermia. Surgeons operated immediately on her to relieve pressure in her skull and to help her breathe more easily.
She has shown very little improvement in her condition since the murder bid.
The solicitor general said: "The prognosis could be described as grim."
Mrs Angiolini said the actual details of the attack on the victim may never be known.
When Cameron was detained by police he told them: "I will take what I deserve."
Defence counsel Edgar Prais QC said: "There is no doubt that this is an awful assault with terrible consequences." Mr Prais added: "This is an awful tragedy. He is clearly a dangerous man and his victim, to all intents and purposes, has lost her life."

Man dies after street shooting
Police comb the street for clues
A murder investigation is under way after a man was shot dead in a quiet cul-de-sac on the south side of Glasgow.
Justin McAlroy was hit several times as he got out of his car in Acacia Way, Cambuslang, at 2200 GMT on Thursday.
The 30-year-old victim was taken to Glasgow's Victoria Infirmary but doctors were unable to revive him.
One line being pursued by police is that the killing was drugs-related.
Justin McAlroy could not be revived
Police have appealed for witnesses and particularly want to speak to anyone who saw a man wearing a woollen hat who was spotted running away from the area after the attack.
Neighbours have spoken of their shock at the incident.
Karen Wilson said she had been talking about moving house in the aftermath of the shooting.
"It's not something you want at all," she went on.
"You don't expect it anywhere near you.
"You think you're in a nice area then this kind of thing happens."
A post-mortem examination on the dead man was being carried out on Friday.

The 60-year-old was blasted in the stomach when he opened his door
A man is in a critical condition after being shot at point-blank range by two men on the doorstep of his own home.
Emergency services, including armed response officers were called to the property at Lancaster Gardens, Whitleigh, Plymouth at 1825 BST.
Paramedics treated a 60-year-old businessman for a shotgun wound to his stomach and facial injuries, before taking him to Derriford Hospital.
Police said they could not rule out armed robbery as a motive.
The victim runs a car dealership in the Mutley area of Plymouth and neighbours said the home he shares with his wife, son and daughter, had been broken into on a number of occasions.
It is believed the man was pistol whipped before being shot.
They're a very nice family. I'm shocked this should happen here
Terry Luscombe, neighbour

A major manhunt has been launched by police. The force helicopter has been deployed and officers from the tactical aid group are carrying out door to door enquiries.
An appeal has been made for witnesses, but police have warned the public not to approach anyone suspicious.
Sgt Russ Phillips said it was being treated as a very serious incident.
"It's completely out of character for this area of the city and for the city in general," he said.
Neighbour Terry Luscombe said he was shocked to discover how badly injured the victim was.
"He's a very nice gentleman - a local car salesman who's very well known in Plymouth," he told BBC News.

Pregnant mum robbed at knifepoint
The police are appealing for witnesses to the mugging
A pregnant woman has been robbed at knifepoint while out walking with her two young children in Edinburgh.
The 28-year-old was walking with her three-year-old son and pushing her two-year-old daughter in a buggy through the underpass at Calder Road.
Two men and a woman approached her and demanded money at about 1300 BST on Saturday.
One of the men grabbed her son, while the woman pushed her against the wall and held a knife to her throat.
She removed rings from the victim's fingers, and took her purse from her bag.
This was a terrifying experience for a pregnant mother and her young children to have gone through
Police spokeswoman
The man then let the boy go, and all three suspects made off through the south end of the underpass.
The victim, who is four months pregnant, and her children were shaken but otherwise uninjured in the incident.
The female attacker is white, aged about 30-years-old with shoulder-length straight black hair.

The man who grabbed the child is also white and aged about 30, with short, dirty blond hair, a dark top, dark jeans and new trainers.
The other man, who was acting as a lookout, is aged about 25, white, about 5ft 9in tall and was wearing a dark cap and dark clothing.
A police spokeswoman said: "This was a terrifying experience for a pregnant mother and her young children to have gone through.
"Fortunately no one was injured in the incident, but the family have been left shaken as a result of the ordeal.
We would appeal for anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or who recognises the description of the suspects, to get in touch with police." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/7362448.stm

Armed gangs target luxury stores Three raiders struck at Selfridges
Two luxury department stores in Manchester have been simultaneously targeted by armed robbers.
The gangs, who were armed with claw hammers, struck at Selfridges in Exchange Square and Harvey Nichols in New Cathedral Street at 1100 BST.
Three men went into Selfridges and smashed glass counters before stealing several watches worth about £400,000.
Two men wearing helmets attacked a security guard in Harvey Nichols, before taking watches worth £300,000.
The guard was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The five men left in a red Ford Transit van, which has since been recovered on Mirabel Street.
These men were after high-value pieces
Det Sgt Dave Turner
The van is believed to have been recently stolen from the Prestwich area but had since been fitted with false number plates.
The five men then made their getaway in an unknown vehicle.
Greater Manchester Police said the two incidents were linked and inquiries were continuing.
Det Sgt Dave Turner said: "This incident has left one man with minor injuries and a number of other people extremely distressed.
"These men seem to have had a clear plan of attack, they were after high-value pieces and knew which counters to target to find them."
One man is described as 5ft 10in (1.77m) and of a stocky build and was wearing a red fleece jacket and a peaked BMX-style helmet.
Another was slightly smaller wearing a light white high-visibility jacket.

Man in unprovoked racist assault
The man was approached by his attackers in Rose Street
A Polish man has been badly beaten in an unprovoked racist attack in the centre of Edinburgh.
The man was walking in Rose Street with a friend when he was confronted by three men at about 1900 BST on Tuesday.
They followed their victim into Castle Street where he was punched and kicked on the head and body.
The attackers were wearing labourers' clothes, including heavy work boots. It is thought they may have been drinking in the area before the assault.
The group was scared off by a taxi driver who beeped his horn, and they were last seen heading west along Rose Street.
This was a completely unprovoked and racially motivated assault, which left the victim badly bruised and extremely shaken
Lothian and Borders Police spokesman

All of the men were white. One was aged between 18 and 20 while the other two were in their mid 20s. One of the older attacker had a tattoo on his neck.
A police spokesman said: "This was a completely unprovoked and racially motivated assault, which left the victim badly bruised and extremely shaken.

"The area of the city where the assault took place is normally fairly busy at this time of the evening, and we know that there were several people who witnessed the incident.
"We want anyone who was in the area at the time, and saw what happened, to contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the three suspects, who may have been drinking in the area earlier in the evening, or working nearby, should also get in touch." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/7350036.stm

Workers fend off machete attack
Gary Anderson and Robert Galt with the valve key
One of two Scottish Water employees who fended off a machete attack has told BBC Scotland of the "frightening" assault in Port Glasgow on Friday.
Gary Anderson said it was shocking to be attacked when they were out helping the public on an emergency call-out.

Scottish Water has said it would reconsider how it responded to out-of-hours water supply problems following the incident.

Scottish Water's Paul Maxwell, said it was a "despicable" attack.

Mr Anderson and colleague Robert Galt fended off the two machete-wielding men while working in the town's Southfield Avenue at 2120 BST.
As the attackers hacked into the van door and broke the window with an 18-inch blade, the pair fought them off with a large valve key.
Gary Anderson added: "As I was approaching my van, two youths came up and started using threatening and abusive language.
"When I was stepping into the van, one of them took a swipe at me with the blade and the glass came down on top of me - it was frightening.
"When you're out trying to help the public and this kind of thing happens, it's shocking."
'Territorial thing'
He said his colleague arrived at that point and used the valve to put some distance between the workers and the attackers.
"I don't understand why they did it - I think it was a kind of territorial thing - they were saying 'You're in the Port now'," he said.
"They were throwing half bricks at us as we tried to get into the van and they were attacking it with machetes - the whole incident lasted about 10 or 15 minutes."
Paul Maxwell, Scottish Water's regional manager for Inverclyde, said: "It is unacceptable that our staff should have encountered such an attack as they completed work to maintain water supplies to the town.
"We will now need to consider how best to respond to such out-of-hours interruptions to the water supply in future."
Mr Anderson called for work to be carried in well-known "blackspots" during conventional working hours to protect the safety of staff.
Strathclyde Police said inquiries were ongoing.
