Of course these are the recorded incidents which have attracted the notice of police and local journalists. It appears that the better
off sections of British society, including most employers, journalists, politicians and community leaders seem to welcome the Polish presence in the UK, particularly because of its positive input
into the British economy.

But those British residents who feel handicapped or are jobless or come from a vulnerable minority, seem to find the Polish presence threatening, particularly to their jobs. This will get worse when the British economy will appear to contract later this year. Thisresentment changes into hostility when it transpires that the Government has no idea how many Central Europeans there are in the
country.

Indefinite sentence passed on Ghanaian who butchered two Poles and maimed a Portguese man in Bedford.
An illegal immigrant who slaughtered two men and maimed another with a meat cleaver in Bedford has been sent to a secure mental hospital indefinitely.

Gabriel Boakye-Dankwa, 27, launched the attack on the three men in the guest house they shared in Grafton Road, believing that one had said he was a terrorist.

He repeatedly attacked them with the cleaver, chasing one into the street and to the foyer of a pub where the onslaught continued.

When it was over he calmly walked back to the house, changed his clothes, washed the knife and went to a nearby shop where he bought a bottle of wine and some Sunny Delight drink.

He then stood behind a cordon and watched police and ambulance staff at the murder scene. He was arrested when an alert officer, DC Mark Devine, noticed blood on his shirt. He told him he had "been in a quarrel".

Boakye-Dankwa appeared at St Albans Crown Court on Wednesday to admit the manslaughter of Polishmen Adam Crol, 21, and his uncle Rsyzard Kraszewski, 44. A charge of attempted murder of ex-Portuguese soldier Hugo Barrolho, now 30, was left on the file after he pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Frances Oldham QC said Boakye-Dankwa, from Ghana, was overstaying in this country and should have left on April 4, 2003. He lived at 39 Grafton Road, Bedford, with 18 other people in ten rooms.
He worked nearby as a cleaner in The Pilgrim's Progress pub and valeted cars.

His room was on the first floor, opposite the one shared by the two Poles who worked at the Dawn Cardington abattoir in Meadow Lane.

Mrs Oldham said there was generally good humour in the guest house, but were occasional disputes over the television.
The defendant had the habit of watching TV and trying to exclude others, she said.

Then, on January 13, 2005, there was "savage slaughter", she said.

There had been a knock at the defendant's door and words were exchanged with Mr Kraszewski and Mr Barrolho.
He later told the police one had said: "You are a terrorist. The police hate you and are coming to look for you."

Boakye-Dankwa replied: "Terror – I will show you terror." He hit the two men alternately about the head with the meat cleaver that he had pulled from the waistband of his trousers.

Mr Barrolho tried to escape and ran towards the bathroom where the attack continued.
He shouted: "Gabriel – what have I done?"

Adam Crol then came up the stairs and was confronted by the defendant who chased him into the kitchen.
He cornered him by the back door and delivered fatal blows to his head. He died at the scene.

Other attacks were renewed on Mr Kraszewski upstairs. He was found in his room by police and paramedics and taken to Bedford Hospital where he died later that night.

Boakye-Dankwa then followed the Portuguese man into the street and chased him up Grafton Road and into Midland Road, where he attacked him again in the foyer of the Grafton Hotel.

He then calmly walked back to the guest house where he changed, washed the knife and went to Lamberts store.
Hugo Barrolho was unconscious for a week to ten days at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and remained there for six months. He is facially scarred for life.

Boakye-Dankwa's barrister Fred Ferguson told the court that doctors treating him at a special unit in Ealing believe he will be in a fit state to stand trial on the remaining charge by late February or March.

The court heard from Dr Adrian Brown of Rampton mental hospital, that Boakye-Dankwa suffered from a psychotic mental illness.

Judge Michael Baker QC told him: "Your actions were utterly merciless." He made an order under section 37 of the Mental Health Act, with a restriction order under section 41, which means Boakye-Dankwa will be held in secure conditions at Rampton.
